Hello again!

ON TO KYOTO!

It was arduous, 3 train transfers. But i sat opposite some cute middle schoolers and it became bearable.  Survived on bentos and onigiri and reached our Tambaguchi AirBnb apartment at 11pm. wearing heel boots will be the death of me.

Come new morn, fresher air than Tokyo. First stop,

FUSHIMI INARI SHRINE

I had to ask my dad to take this shot, IT WAS PLANNED.
he has no initiative to take candids for me.
a Thousand cranes heal a sickness
i think this is cute
kitsune wishes

Bought a haori here for 1000Y and loved it. i really like jap trad clothing silhouettes. Obviously, we couldn't make it all the way to the top of the gates since laoniang has bad knees. I am that laoniang. (not my mum)

NISHIKI MARKET

ONWARDS!  Totally unplanned.

We had fresh ootoro, salmon and oysters standing up in a fishmongers. Pretty oishi chunks i tell you. I'm a sucker for ootoro. There's lots of traditional food to try if you're up for it and it wasn't too crowded, good for pre-lunch.

KIYOMIZUDERA

We reached KIYOMIZUDERA before the sun started to set and it was a lovely atmosphere. Families, school friends, couples, tourists shuffled towards and from the steep slope to the temple, holding hands, food souvenirs and matcha ice cream cones. I just realised that we visited so many temples but didn't pray, just admired the beautiful old architecture.

so many beautiful kimonos and obis here.

GION

Onwards! We came to spot a Geisha, and i did. Within 5 mins of stepping in Gion.
Gion street
Fleeting geisha/maiko
I guess it was pure luck. my family were 10 steps ahead of me and missed her, but whilst i was capturing shots of geisha posters pasted on the stores, a real one turned up.
I heard the clicking of her geta hitting the floor, turned and there she was, SPEEDWALKING.

It felt like she apparated from nowhere. I bent into a stance and clicked away. This was the best shot and it was blurry. Either she was walking way too fast to capture, or my hands were slightly trembling from excitement.

The other tourists on the streets were nonchalant or perhaps, they didn't realise her presence. I expected them to act like paparazzi, shooting and chasing. Those brief 6 seconds was enough, i was lucky, such a splendid way to end the busy night.

Come next morn.

Nijo Castle!
early sakura.
ARASHIYAMA BAMBOO FOREST

another planned pic
so many couples here.... and in pretty kimonos.
Someday i shall have a koibito and honeymoon here too.
